Looking for something fun and inexpensive to do this summer? From now until Aug. 6, 2017, head down to the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum to see “Black Box,” “Flourish” and “Making Waves” before the museum closes for the season.
The Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and is free to the public. Hours vary by day, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly!
Black Box
Location: North Gallery
Artist: Christine Cassano
“Black Box” is described as an “allegorical space about living in the afterglow of the modern era,” one which explores some current ecological challenges through the lens of the distant future. Utilizing a variety of mediums from ceramics and metals to audio and video, Cassano blends human and technological characteristics to examine our impact on the world and weigh the possible consequences.
Flourish
Location: Main Gallery, Project Room, South Gallery
Curator: Thinkspace
This colorful and abstract exhibition spans three galleries of the museum, and features work from a handful of international artists from the New Contemporary Art Movement, including Aaron Nagel, Felipe Pantone, Kevin Peterson, Marco Mazzoni and Sean Norvet.
Incorporating a variety of artistic styles from Pop Surrealism and Hyperrealism to Street Art and Graffiti, there are plenty of vibrant and persuasive pieces to view in this group collection.
Making Waves
Location: SRP Gallery
Artists: Jennifer McCurdy, Katie Glusica, Lucrezia Bieler and Robert Donne
This exhibition combines several different mediums—paper, porcelain, sound and weaving—to explore movement, space and the dualism of waves. Visitors will be able to experience both visual and aural perceptions of waves and reflect on the various ways they are connected to our everyday world.
