Specs at a Glance
As one of the first two vehicles produced through the Toyota luxury-branded Lexus marquee, the ES has always appealed to consumers who want their sedans to be very quiet and comfortable, have a silky ride quality, and provide lots of amenities. Since its debut in 1989, the ES has become Lexus’s best-selling model. The 2019 model year is notable for kicking off the Lexus ES’s seventh production cycle. By this time, the midsize sedan was being produced as a gasoline-powered vehicle and a hybrid variant. For the 2019 version, they are known as the ES 350 and the ES 300h, respectively.
How Performance Differs Between these Vehicles?
The ES 350 goes with a gasoline-powered drivetrain: a 3.5-liter V6 with 302 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque hitched to a direct-shift 8-speed automatic transmission. It enables the ES to go from zero to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds, as well as achieve a fuel efficiency rating of 22 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. With a powertrain that combines a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, an electric drive motor, and a continuously variable transmission for a total output of 215 horsepower, the ES 300h is nowhere the accelerator that its gasoline counterpart is, with a 0-60 mph of 8.1 seconds. However, its powertrain system, which includes regenerative braking, is designed to be more fuel efficient; its fuel economy is estimated at 43 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway. Added on the 300h is EV Mode, which, in addition to the standard ECO, Normal, and Sport modes, enables the car to drive for short distances at low speeds on battery power alone. Regardless of trim, Lexus adds paddle shifters for heightening the driving excitement.
What Differentiates ES 350 and 300h Appearance?
Using a welded-steel unibody construction for ultimate sturdiness, the 2019 Lexus ES sports an aerodynamic design for promoting reduced noise and vibration and enhancing handling and high-speed control. Heated power side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, LED headlights and taillamps, and 17-inch split-10-spoke alloy wheels are some of the sedan’s standard exterior features.
The Different Options and Features
A five-seater, the 2019 Lexus ES provides 16.7 cubic feet of cargo space from its trunk. All seats are covered with leatherette, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel faces the 10-way power front seats with power lumbar support. There’s a memory system for the driver’s seat and steering wheel (as well as the side mirrors). Standard comfort and convenience features on the ES include dual-zone automatic climate control, Amazon Alexa technology, a smart keyless access system, the Scout GPS Link navigation app, three USB ports, 10-speaker audio, Bluetooth wireless technology, a CD player, AM/FM radio, HD Radio, a three-month free subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio, and an 8-inch infotainment display.
Also standard is a wide range of Lexus Enform technologies that include a Wi-Fi hotspot for connecting up to five devices (with 4 GB of data or a one-year complimentary trial, whichever comes first), smartphone-based remote connectivity to the vehicle, mobile application integration, 24-hour access to a live response center agent, and easy access to the vehicle’s service and maintenance needs.
Standard safety features include 10 airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, smart stop technology, an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, a 10-year subscription to Lexus Enform Safety Connect for roadside assistance, and the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 suite (which provides features such as low-light pedestrian and daytime bicyclist detection and road sign information).
