At the 2016 Paris Auto Show, Lexus shocked the world with a new compact SUV concept: UX. Not only is the UX concept incredibly advanced when it comes to its design language, it also shows off some impressive technological developments.
Created at the automaker’s design center in France, the UX shows Lexus’ dedication to not only continuing to advance the brand’s design language, but also reinventing the driving experience. As you’ll find across all new Lexus models, the UX is a vehicle all its own with unique styling and expression. According to Lexus, the UX is designed to look seamlessly deconstructed and “inside-out.”
“The ‘inside-out’ concept came from a lot of discussions within the team. We wanted to show the human-centric aspect of the concept in a visually as well as philosophically strong way. A strong symbiosis between the exterior and interior was felt to be important by all the designers involved. To create the anticipation from the exterior, which could then have a visual link and expand into the interior, was a key goal.”- Alexandre Gommier, Interior Designer, ED2.

In the tech world, UX stands for user experience, which is exactly what this concept seeks to reinvent. The UX is outfitted with advanced technologies, including the new Kinetic Seat Concept which is designed to enhance driver comfort through increased stability and support. Rear-facing cameras take the place of rearview mirrors, displaying the view on interior screens. The display systems, including the instrument cluster and infotainment center, use three-dimensional hologram technology which, along with the flowing dashboard, advance the level of immersion that drivers experience.
There’s no word on whether or not the UX has been confirmed for production, so stay tuned to our Lexus blog for updates. In the meantime, check out the 360-degree view of the model below.
